Famous Glassware Makers

Glassware has been an important facets of our lives for centuries. We use them for dining, entertaining or as beatific forms of decorations. Glassware manufacturers have over the years, created glassware as both functional and decorative. Let us look at some of the most famous glassware makers, of designs have been highly praised and prized.

Murano glass is synonym with elegance and refinement. The Venetian island of Murano, situated off shore of Venice, Italy has been producing high-quality glassware for centuries. In present times, Murano is still the number one destination for those who appreciate and collect high-end glassware and jewelry.

In the 9th century Rome, glassmaking in Murano, influenced heavily by both Asian and Muslim heritage, began to take effect. Glassmakers were re-located to the island of Murano in 1291 because of fire threats. Till today, Murano glass is still very much interwoven with Venetian glass. At the culmination of the 16th century, more than seven thousand of the island’s citizens were very much ensconced in the glassmaking industry, making them the island’s most prominent inhabitants. They are however, forbidden from leaving the Republic, although they enjoyed many perks such as persecution. Many of their daughters also married into Venice’s most affluent families.

The glassmakers of Murano redefined numerous technologies on enamelled, crystalline, aventurine and multi-colored glass. Through them, glassware was embellished with glass gemstones and threads of gold. The glassware artists of Murano, over the centuries, and to this day, utilize age-old techniques to produce exquisite chandeliers, wine stoppers, elegant figurines and art glass of breath taking proportions.

Tiffany glass is another glassware maker that has endured the test of time. Founded by Louis Comfort Tiffany, he created highly-dramatic glassware in his studio from 1878 to 1933. Tiffany’s head designer, Clara Driscoll, manufactured the coveted leaded glass Tifanny lamps from 1909. Both Louis and Clare are heralded as America’s most famous glass artists of all time.

Tiffany was and still is famous for its opalescent glass and Favrile glass created in 1880. Favrile was taken from the French term ‘fabrile’, meaning handcrafted. Ring mottle glass, invented in the early 20th century, was also another Tiffany trademark, although this glass art form was forgotten when the Tiffany studios was closed in 1928. The art was revived in the late 1960s by Eric Lovell of Uroboros Glass.

Another famous glassware contender would have to be Waterford Crystal, the makers of crystal glassware in Waterford, Ireland. Waterford Crystal moved its flagship factories to Germany and Czech Republic after the factory in Ireland was shut down after the Waterford Wedgwood Receivership in 2009.

Waterford Crystal began its history in 1783 by George and William Penrose, who created exquisite flint glass renowned the world over. Although the factory closed its doors in 1851, the art was continued by Charles Bacik, and with the help of designer friend Miroslav Havel, the Company continued the legacy of making crystal glassware. The Irish Glass Bottle Company took over in the early 50s.

Famous designer Jasper Conran began creating a signature range for Waterford Crystal and Wedgwood in 1999.

DiscountMugs.com is a large distribution company based in Miami, Florida. They are web-based and factory-direct which allows them to keep prices lower than the rest of the competition. They also have a huge selection of glassware from wine glasses and shot glasses to beer mugs and champagne flutes.

The Champagne Flute Debate

Often people question the description of One Piece Injection Moulded Plastic Champagne Flutes, the query being what does One Piece refer? This simply means that the product is in-one-piece, not in two or three pieces. There are many Champagne Flutes for sale which come with the bases not attached, these are to be attached before use.

While this type of Plastic Glass may be cheaper to deliver (you can fit more in a box) and as a result a little cheaper to purchase, if you are having a £50 bottle of Bollinger saving a few pennies on your Disposable Glass can prove a fruitless exercise as explained below.

Two piece flutes sometimes wobble as many of the bases do not fit correctly, are a pain to put together and many bases will fall off leaving you unable to put your Champagne down!

One Piece Champagne Flutes obviously do not have this problem and are closer in appearance to real Champagne Glasses.

Most would argue against drinking Champers from anything other than a glass flute but the plastic champagne glass has its place, handing over £3.00 for a glass of Champagne and making a profit is a fairly easy thing to do, but only if you get your Champagne Glasses back.

Smashed flutes and cut feet are a problem many events organisers and Catering Supplies distributors would like to avoid too, unfortunately in todays compensation culture world one must cater for the worst case scenario and not rely upon common sense.

2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com Makes Shopping for Beer and Wine Easier and More Enjoyable

2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com Makes Shopping for Beer and Wine Easier and More Enjoyable

Swansea, (PRWEB) December 24, 2004

While online shoppers are looking for Beer and Wine for the holiday season, many may find it difficult and not know where to go or look because there are so many options.

That’s why Glenn Sarault, owner of SunBright Publishing, launched http://2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com this week. “There are so many companies and so much information out there that can make it difficult to shop for Wines and Wine Racks. But at http://2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com, we’ve done all the work so our customers don’t have to,” Sarault said.

Sarault features individually selected companies on the Web site that provide a large selection of name brand, high quality products, dedicated customer support and expert information. Sarault researches and tests Beer and Wine companies and posts the better-quality companies on http://2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com. The company review process includes examining each company’s attention to detail and the feedback from each company’s visitors.

The Web site also provides customers with articles that provide tips and information about the types of Wine Accessories they are looking for. For example, “Choosing wine glasses are an important ingredient to getting the most enjoyment from your bottle of wine. There are many types of wine glasses with different grades of quality. It’s not necessary to break your budget when selecting wine glasses if you stick to a few basic guidelines.

-The wine glass should at least be plain and clear so that you can enjoy the color.

-Wine glasses of adequate size are in order so that you can have sufficient room to swirl the wine, so as to release the aroma.

-A wine glass should have an adequate stem to pick up from. So that finger prints don’t dirty the bowl and your hands don’t change the temperature of the wine.

Also, if you really want to capture the aroma of the wine you may want to select a set of wine glasses that taper at the top. After you swirl the wine and release the aromas they stand less of a chance escaping your nose when taking a sip. Many wine connoisseurs would agree that different styles of wines demand different types of wine glasses:

-red wine glasses – Is served in stockier glasses to amplify the bouquet.

-white wine glasses – should be served in glasses with tall stems so that the wine doesn’t get too warm when you hold the glass.

-champagne glasses – is served in tall flutes to contain the bubbles as long as possible.

Buy the best wine glasses you can afford, but at the end of the day it is the wine matters!.” according to the Web site.

Other advice and helpful information about wines, wine accessories, wine racks, wine glasses, wine making, beers and home brewing can also be found on http://2nd-to-no-1-in-wines.com.

“We’ve taken the time to shop around and help narrow down your many choices in Beer and Wine for value and satisfaction. You’ll be happy with your connection to select companies that also feature outstanding wine racks and wine accessories that you will be satisfied with.” Sarault said.

New Designs of Glasses

EtableTop was the very first online retailer to showcase the new Glasses collection of fine china. Some have said that the glass was modeled after the breasts of Marie Antoinette. Others have said they were created by Madame du Pompadour, the mistress of Frances’s Loius XV, as a gift for her lover. These theories are possible as champagne was invented in the 17th century and the saucer champagne glass was first introduced in England around 1663. Over the years the tulip shape has gained in popularity, so much so, that we never see the older version. Many seem to prefer it as the bubbles have the space to form and rise to the surface. However, the saucer also has neat attibutes as you can really smell the aroma and feel the bubbles when in use.

Over this last year, I have noticed a return to the saucer champagne, also known as the champagne sherbet, as its secondary use is for ice creams and soft desserts. The reason for the resurgence is the effect of changing styles in both home decor and spirits. Firstly, tables are becoming more formal again with heavily embellished dinnerware and the correct utensil for every type of food stuff. The more bulbous form has an opulence seen in more formal events. The other reason is the growing popularity of spirits like prosecco and champagnes, over wines for cocktail hour. In my research it is hard to find saucer champagnes in the US, but in fact they are still made by most of the top crystal companies. We have put together a group of both traditional and modern styles to order in time for the holidays. Many designs of glasses are available here.

The magnificent home had three collections, one for 12, one for 24 and one for 18 as well as endless accessories like tureens and platters. The china was produced from a French Porcelain House Lahoche & Pannier and dates back to the mid-19th century. Wearstler is an avid collector with over sixteen sets of china. Plastic Champagne Flutes Add Instant Class

Did someone just put you in charge of putting together a catered event? If so, you might want to do some serious thinking about all the supplies that you’re going to need. This means that you should carefully assess the type of glasses, plates and silverware that would be the best to use. These things can definitely have an important impact on how well your event is received by all of your guests in attendance. You should definitely look into some different catering supplies online if you want to save some time when you’re doing your shopping. There is no reason for you to waste your time driving all over town looking for different individual goods when you can actually just buy everything that you could possibly need for this event from just one website. Plus, you can do all of your shopping from the comfort of your home.

Planning a formal event is somewhat more difficult than planning one that’s just a casual gathering because your supplies are going to need to be held to a higher standard of excellence. However, this does not mean that you need to stress out about what might be appropriate to use. Right now, there are a actually a wide variety of items that would be appropriate to use in this particular setting. You’ll benefit from looking at some pictures of other formal gatherings or wedding receptions for inspiration.

Also, don’t forget that you can actually use plastic champagne flutes at a very formal celebration. You’ll just have to make sure that you’ve chosen some that are made by the best manufacturing company. Perhaps it would serve you well to do some research into some companies that actually make disposable wares intended for things like wedding reception ceremonies. These companies will definitely have some selections that are more appropriate than stores that just make goods that would be appropriate to use at a celebration in your back yard.

You should also take note of the fact that if you are using plastic champagne flutes, there are some other advantages that come along with making this decision. Because they’re plastic, you can easily recycle them after their use if you are someone who is particularly concerned with doing everything that you possibly can to help the environment. You also will love the fact that they’re relatively hard to break if you know that small children are going to be in attendance at your event. You wouldn’t want to worry about whether or not kids are going to be able to have fun at the gathering.

Finally, keep in mind that when you are planning for a formal event, the cost of all the different things that you’re going to need to purchase can definitely add up. So, perhaps you should do some thinking about trying to cut some costs on the dishes and glasses that you would like to use. Buying them online is a smart thing to do if you’re especially concerned about how much everything is going to cost, or if you would simply like to devote most of your budget to other elements of the party.

You can certainly use plastic champagne flutes at a very formal function. Just make sure you’ve bought your catering supplies from the appropriate source.

Be Safe and Green this Holiday Season — Greenhome.com Offers Advice and Environmentally Safe Holiday Gifts

Be Safe and Green this Holiday Season — Greenhome.com Offers Advice and Environmentally Safe Holiday Gifts

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2006

GreenHome.com (http://www.greenhome.com), the online superstore for all environmentally friendly products and services, recommends that as children make their Christmas wish lists for toys, “Santa” provides eco-friendly presents this holiday season.

“Every year, over 5,000 new toys enter the market place, with over 150,000 different kinds of toys for sale in approximately one million stores this holiday season,” says environmental safety expert and Green Home founder Lawrence Comras. “Despite efforts that manufactures and safety inspectors make, many toys escape inspection. However, parents, relatives and other adults can check every new toy a child may receive for possible hazards,” Comras adds.

Comras suggests avoiding plastic in purchasing, and giving non-toxic and safe toys to the infants, children and teenagers on your holiday gift list this year. Avoiding plastic is the main way to avoid risking your children’s health. Look for toys made from traditional and eco-friendly materials like wood, cloth, clay ceramic and metal, many of which are for sale on Greenhome.com.

Plastic toys are almost always made of poly vinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is cheap and easy to make and as a result, is one of the most widespread ingredients in toy manufacture. PVC is commonly used in teethers and soft squeeze toys for young children, beach balls, bath toys, dolls and other products, such as knapsacks, raincoats, and umbrellas.

Why is PVC bad? PVC has dangerous chemicals that can leak out, get swallowed by babies and enter their bloodstream. PVC is made softer and more flexible by the addition of ‘softeners’. These are not chemically bound to PVC and float around, ready to be ingested by chewing children.

PVC often uses softeners, called phthalaltes, which are known to cause damage to the kidneys, as well as the liver and sex organs. Testing has shown that some children’s teething and other toys contain up to 40 per cent phthalates. Bottom line: Be safe. Look for non-plastic toys for your children that may still be of chewing age.

Lego, IKEA and Nike have pledged to make all of their products PVC-free. Mattel, Hasbro and Disney are yet to do so. A move by the European Union to impose a temporary ban was scuttled by the powerful American toys lobby, which has also prevented their own government from doing anything concrete.

The story doesn’t end here. There are more ways in which a toy can slowly harm your child’s health. Scientists have also found that toys have dangerous levels of lead and cadmium in them. A child doesn’t have to chew on a toy for it to be harmful. Lick it. Suck it. Or even inhale it, and damage can be done. Lead causes damage to the nervous system and brain. Cadmium on the other hand may even cause cancer.

Green Home’s suggestions to avoid PVC and lead include:

Choose carefully. Look for good design and quality construction in all toys you buy. The more disposable the toy, the more likely it’s toxic.

Be a label reader. Look for safety information such as “Not recommended for children under 3 years of age,” or “non-toxic” on toys likely to end up in children’s mouths, or “washable/hygienic materials” on stuffed toys and dolls.

Look for the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) seal on electrical toys. It indicates the electrical parts have been tested for safety. But remember, almost all electrical cords sold in the US contain lead, and chewing on these cords is dangerous not only due to risks of electrocution, but risks of lead poisoning.

This year, Green Home has increased its product offerings to include thousands of eco-conscious holiday gifts. Green Home offers visitors a huge variety of stylish and useful presents, from LED holiday lights to organic cotton bedding, towels, and clothing, to sustainably made wooden toys. And because Green Home certifies each product’s environmental claims, shoppers can be sure that the products are not only attractive and high quality, but also meet rigorous environmental, or green standards.

A selection of Green Home’s holiday gift offerings for children include:

dolls made from soysilk, a super-soft by-product of soybeans;

games that teach about the rainforest made from all-recycled materials;

inexpensive organic cotton stuffed animals and toys;

non-toxic art supplies; and

a wide selection of organic cotton clothing for kids.

Gifts for adults include:

colorful wall clocks made from reused plastic bottles

stylish-looking composter that fits in your kitchen

designer-made solar charger for laptops and cell phones

hemp clothing, travel accessories, and shower curtains

plush bright white spa bathrobe from 100% organic cotton

gorgeous recycled glass champagne flutes

all-natural rubber yoga mats

Green Home has thousands of other gifts, too. There are even ‘green’ pet accessories.

“If you really want to show somebody you love them, get them a healthy, sustainable, non-toxic product – one that protects their own personal environment. That’s the Green Home for the Holidays concept,” said Green Home founder Comras. “There are high quality, inexpensive green alternatives for any product we use daily, and Green Home offers just about all of them under one roof.”

Waterford Crystal Vases That Convey Sophistication

Whether you are starting from scratch or in the market to upgrade the décor in your home, a truly timeless way to convey an ambience of sophistication is with a striking and artful crystal vase by Waterford.

Harkening back to the humble roots of its establishment in 1783 in the Irish village of the same name, over time Waterford has garnered a distinguished international reputation for crafting some of the world’s finest crystal pieces. Offering several full lines of stemware, flatware, decorative items and more, a piece by Waterford is certain to make that perfect gift, make a big impression at your next dinner party or add just the right touch to any room in your home.

With a number of elegant, artistic and unique lines to choose from, plus a reputation backed by more than a hundred years of quality products, Waterford is the place to turn when you are searching for the next gem for your crystal collection.

John Rocha by Waterford Crystal Black 12 Inch Vase

For a truly unique and hauntingly beautiful touch of artful elegance, John Rocha’s 12-inch vase exhibits a rarely seen high gloss black vignette, which strikingly contrasts with a narrow band of diamond patterned cuts just below the rim. Its simple, bare-bones design gives the impression of a floating sea of stars on a field of black where the cuts appear. This design exhibits the typically daring and original work of Rocha, who was born in Hong Kong and built his reputation as an award-winning designer in London and Ireland. Add a touch of his incredible vision to your home for a focal piece that’s sure to generate lots of conversation. This vase measures 5 inches wide and 12 inches tall and weighs 2 pounds.

Waterford Crystal Colleen 9 Inch Vase

One of the most sophisticated and truly complimentary ways of showing off a bouquet of freshly cut flowers, Waterford’s Colleen 9 Inch Vase takes its place as a truly classic piece in any crystal collection. Sitting atop a formal and stately looking pedestal base of crystal, the vase features an ever-so-gently curving hour glass shape whose super smooth rim is just a bit more flared out than its corresponding lower half. Just above the pedestal, one of Waterford’s signature concave olive and karo cuts catches, reflects and bends light for a subtle but striking effect. This vase measures 9 inches high and weighs 4 pounds and is just as lovely on its own as it is displaying flowers, shells or colored marbles.

Waterford Crystal Signed Arrington 10 Inch 14K Gold Trim Vase

For a bold statement that commands the eye in even the most opulent settings, Waterford’s Arrington 10 inch vase features a unique touch of gold to catch your eye. With its dramatic, undulating thick crystal cuts suggesting perhaps a row of gently wind bent grass or flowing water, the vase’s smooth disc of14 karat gold around the rim balances its lower half with clever grace. The vase flares steadily from its sturdy base and quickly checks itself with a narrower smooth neck, creating a classic vignette. This vase is hand made in Ireland and comes bearing the signature of Waterford Design Director Jim O’Leary, reflecting his pride for the handsome design. This item measures 5 inches across at its widest point at 10 inches high and weighs 3 pounds.

Waterford Crystal Quinn Lane 9 Inch Vase

With its traditional flared trumpet-style vignette, Wateford’s Quinn Lane 9 inch vase lends a trim vertical line of interest to your crystal collection or makes an amazing venue for a few perfectly formed cut roses. This vase features a fantastically simple yet effective fluted look that quietly suggests a champagne glass. From a solid and slightly thick disc base, a truly elegant concave diamond design follows the cue of the flaring shape and evolves gracefully into curved cuts and gentle spikes that suggest stately sheaves of wheat. The design halts just before reaching the ultra-smooth and delicate rim that seems to extend the vase into the air itself. This lovely piece measures 9 inches high and makes a welcome addition to any décor.

Few pieces of art make the sophisticated impact of crystal designed by Waterford. Whether you choose a subtle, understated design or a dramatic showpiece, their long line of vases can compliment any room of the house. Each of Waterford’s handsome crystal pieces comes well packed in a tasteful Waterford box, lending them perfectly to gift-giving.

Discerning crystal lovers and collectors the world over are certain to be familiar with Waterford’s penchant for perfection and consistently breathtaking pieces of fine crystal. When considering your options for adding a subtle yet effective touch of sophistication to your own home, don’t hesitate to peruse Waterford’s long line of elegant vases to make just the impression you’ve been looking for.
